Sony DSC T70 is a junior and cheaper DSC T200's sister. It has the same set of functions and almost the same appearance. The sizes are very close too (56.4 x 90 x 20.7mm). It has also an 8 megapixel matrix, includes face detection technology, smile shutter mode, which shoot automatically when the subject smiles (as well as exposes some other grimaces, sometimes you can catch very fun frames); and BIONZ processor, DRO technology, HD TV output, red eye correction function, Super SteadyShot ® optical stabilization system (this is really valuable point), and etc. STAMINA battery is naturally the same. Like some other recent Sony compact models, t70 is presented in the market in different case colors.
The differences are evinced in the dimensions of the touch-screen display and the optical lens design. The senior sister has the touch-screen of 3.5", and the DSC t70 - of "only" 3" (actually, this size is big enough). The later difference, of cause, is the most significant. Another design of the device lens (11 elements in 9 groups, 3 aspheric elements, 1 prism), and, accordingly, another optical zoom (typical for most compact 1x3 at t70 against 1x5 at t200) should generally result in the fact, that the quality of images made by first camera is not necessarily the same as that of another. And we have known, that images made by t200 are of a very good quality.
Indeed, a variety of independent tests rate the quality of images by the Sony DSC T70 in the similar way: pictures quality is about or some points above average value for compact cameras (through the whole range of shooting modes). Most weak point with this camera, maybe, is indoor shooting without flash, especially portrait shooting. Among the merits it is possible to mark good natural color of the pictures and successful macro mode. What about shooting at high ISO levels, it is the same story as with the t200: you had better not use it, too much noise.
And, of course, we can not fail to note the fast shutter response. Our camera is today one of the fastest among the digital compacts. A single photo takes only about 0.18 sec. Sony DSC t70 is also the light-weight champion, it weighs only 128 gr.
Yet as a whole, comparing the camera Sony DSC t70 with t200 I can say: this is precisely the case when you get the better article for the higher price, and the article which merits aren't of the same level for the lower price.
