It so happened historically that Sony brand was to a lesser extent associated with AG photography than these ones such as Canon, Kodak or Nikon. At the same time, in the point of video, tv and radio devices Sony had for years been head and shoulders above many of its competitors. Also, optical sony devices: lenses, filters, binoculars for decades enjoyed a well-earned reputation and respect. So it is therefore not surprising that from the very beginning of a new era of digital photography, Sony entered immediately upon development and manufacturing digital cameras. For more than ten years that has elapsed since that time, Sony cameras permanently improved and evolved, and now no one can argue that digital photo-devices from Sony yield to none other brands. Of course, it is impossible to mark out the sole leader among manufacturers of digital cameras. But had this incorrect task been set, I think, it would be Sony to appear among the main challengers for the honour.
Turning to the particularities of digital Sony cameras, we have to mention of a factor, which had contributed greatly to the company's well-turned appearance and present leading position in the market. Sony has continuous and successful experience in its own development and manufacturing CCD image sensors, which are core element in digital cameras. CCD-s are matrix arrays of charge-coupled-devices, an electronic memory that records the view when we shot, instead of film in AG photography. By the way, Sony CCD image sensors are using in a variety of cameras from other best-known producers.
Our site is devoted primarily to compact digital cameras. To wit, to the cameras that combines advantages offered by digital technology in photography with small size.
So what can we advise on? Of course, a foregone conclusion that CyberShot compacts from Sony are in some aspects preferable than cameras from other famous manufacturers wouldn’t be equitable. And if we commend them, it's probably just a matter of taste and personal choice. A few simple tips may be, will help you make your own decision.
Before you go and buy a camera, you have to decide to yourself, what features will be particularly important to you, or which you won’t be able manage without. Among first things, for example, you have to choose a kind of power source. Would storage battery fit your needs or you necessarily need replaceable power elements (of AA size or any other). Sony, among other things, produces very good Stamina batteries, which allows to shoot a large number of images. But if you are going to hike autonomously for, at least, a week or so - this choice is not yours. Or you are going to take pictures in a poor light and want to dispense with tripod - you should look for camera with image stabilization system. (Although it is not a fact that some system of this kind would rescue you in this difficult case). Or you need a big zoom. In this case, the choice immediately and significantly shrinks down. Or perhaps, you were impressed by LCD screen with touch-screen operation, which allows you to manage all camera's functions. The availability of these features and factors should reasonably help you to make your choice. Thing of top importance in your companionship with camera is to feel relish. And bear in mind, that manufacturer has yet concerned of adequate functionality of his devices and you'll get the wide set of all really requisite functions in any case. And, of course, price matters. You have to feel nicely about camera's cost. You have to remember that price, in most cases, does not determine the quality of images you'll get with your camera. The cost, pretty much, depends on fancy singularities and bonus dispensable functions (eg, the alleged easiness of interaction with the printers). And, of cause, the newer is the costlier.
And another very important point. Remember that quality of the photos, in most cases, is defined by the skills of the photographer, and not by the camera. In automatic mode and in good illumination conditions, as addendum, all modern cameras will evince themselves in a very dignified way.
